Dark Hunters are Yummy
In the last few months i have been getting into the Sherrilyn Kenyon. I kept seeing her name pop up in a facebook group i'm in, so when i saw some books reduced at Dymocks i grabbed them. It took me a long time to get started though. The books just sat there until finally i had the courage to get started. It's not as easy as it might seem. The series is well under way and looking for the book reading order was tricky. I tried on the Kenyon website and even that was a bit confusing. I started to feel really blond (which i am). Why couldn't i work out what order to read the books? Then i worked out that i actually owned book one. It was one of the cheap ones i had bought, how lucky was that? This is where things got weird.
The first few pages at the start of every book explain how the main character became the way they are. We are talking thousands of years ago with gods etc, mostly Greek gods and Roman but while i enjoy the odd historical romance this was a bit too much for me. Imagine my relief when i got to the end of the intro and turn the page and it is actually set in present day. Not to say that there are not times when the books pop back and forth to the past but for the most part the book is set in the present.
I can't reccommend this series enough. There are Dark Hunters who protect humans by hunting and killing daimons. Have i lost you now? Let me say this is not usually my thing but the books are not really about the hunting, that is their job and they certainly come up against some crazy daimons but for the most part the books are amazing romacne stories. The Hunters were once humans who in death give their soul to a goddess in return for vengence. Meaning they are damaged emotionally and i kind of like the somewhat broken leading mad. They meet a strong leading lady who usually has no clue that there are such things as dark hunters or extra terestrial being. Sometimes they are magical themselves but have no clue. They usually have to fight tooth and nail to stay alive but also to be together.
The part that keeps me reading is that the females are so strong. They are not damsels in distress, they usually fight side by side with the guys even if the guys don't want them too. The men are all warriors from thousands of years ago who believe it's their job to protect their women. It is a battle of the wills but the ladies rock in thesebooks just as much as the guys do.
I highly recomment getting your hands on book one in this series and giving it a go. Book one is not really about anyof the Dark Hunters but rather a guy called Julian who has been cursed to live as a sex slave inside a book until he is called out. Even though this story line sounds very far fetched and some of you might think how could youread this and it be believeable my response is that the way Julian talks about his feelings and physical state while being trapped inside the book had my heart clenching. The way he had been used and treated so badly was so sadit felt real to me the reader. If you have only ever read straight romance before i'd say this is a good first step into the worlk of paranormal romance.
