The Bartender - Piper Rayne - plus my review

ebook
Cover Design: Djordje Grbic
Release Date: February 1, 2017

Synopsis
Who knew sleeping with the enemy could be this fun?   Was the one night stand a good idea?   Well, no. Probably not in retrospect.   In my defense I had just moved back into my grandparent’s house, I’d lost my dream job, and a guy on Tinder had stood me up. It was like life had suddenly stamped ‘LOSER’ on my forehead.   So when the guy behind the bar started giving me THE look…you know, the one that promised I’d be screaming his name into the wee hours of the morning? When that guy also has the perfect amount of scruff on his chiseled chin, biceps bulging out of his t-shirt, and a cocky grin you knew he’d earned in the sack…when he gives you that look, you don’t bother to figure out what your six degrees of separation are. You jump on that horse and ride it!   Pun fully and completely intended. And accurate by the way.   I fully admit to feeling sorry for myself and acting impulsively, but by the time I’d figured out WHO the bartender was, I was already falling for him.

About the Author
Piper Rayne, or Piper and Rayne, whichever you prefer because we’re not one author, we’re two. Yep, you get two established authors for the price of one. You might be wondering if you know us? Maybe you’ll read our books and figure it out. Maybe you won’t. Does it really matter?
We aren’t trying to stamp ourselves with a top-secret label. We wanted to write without apology. We wanted to not be pigeon holed into a specific outline. We wanted to give readers a story without them assuming how the story will flow. Everyone has their favorite authors, right? And when you pick up their books, you expect something from them. Whether it’s an alpha male, heavy angst, a happily ever after, there’s something you are absolutely certain the book will contain. Heck, we’re readers, too, we get it.
What can we tell you about ourselves? We both have kindle’s full of one-clickable books. We're both married to husbands who drive us to drink. We're both chauffeurs to our kids. Most of all, we love hot heroes and quirky heroines that make us laugh, and we hope you do, too.

My Review

This book was so funny and entertaining. Whitney and her friends have a crazy dynamic which I really enjoyed too.
From reading the blurb I wasn't sure how the two main characters were going to be enemy's but I was pleasently surprised by the way the story went and the twists and turns it took.
I also enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters. It was hot and steamy and I couldn't get enough.
This book was an easy light read but it had some deeper moments that just gave the story that little bit extra.
Well worth your time

Title: Destroying the Soul
Series: Destroyed Series #2
Authors: L. Grubb & Abigail Davies
Cover Designer: Clarissa Wild

Goodreads:

Synopsis:
I’m a man with a troubled past. Growing up with a drug addict for a mother and trying to be both mom and dad for my little brother was hard, but I was determined for him to make something of himself, to help get him in the best college out there and get him away from the hellhole we call home; even if it took everything in me.

The plan was to make my business legit and make some real money so I could make sure he had everything he needed.
I was on a one track mission, bounding ahead with tunnel vision.
That was until her.
Until I saw her sweet face behind the counter of the coffee shop and suddenly, I had another focus.

She had an aura of sadness about her that drew me in. Her softly spoken words made me wish I could listen to her all day long. I made it my mission to make her smile whenever I got the chance to see her. The invisible thread that connected us started getting smaller and smaller as time went on, bringing us closer than I’d ever been to anyone before.

At least, I thought we were close. I had no idea that she was suffering at the hands of a monster. A monster who did everything he could to keep me from her. He ripped me away from her when she needed me the most and I was powerless to fight against the law, even if I didn’t break it.

My life was turned upside down and the worst of it was leaving her without getting to tell her how I really felt. I never once forgot about our connection and when I finally got out of prison and went to check on my Ivy League brother, I never expected to see her there.

I knew it would be hard to explain why I just up and left without a word, but I never thought it would be near impossible to even talk to her, to explain that I didn’t even have a choice in leaving.

Then he turns up, the monster that haunts her memories. I won’t let him keep me away from her again and I certainly won’t let him hurt her.

I’ll do anything to protect her. Torture, maim, kill. And I’ll do it all without a second thought or conscience.

My Review

So this is my first book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I could totally connect with the characters and the setting being an Aussie city girl who got my own cowboy. I know people like the characters in this book I could almost put faces to the characters.
I thought the story was different and interesting and it kept me captivated and wanting more all the way to the end.
I could feel the rush of new love and the hesitation and self doubt that you have in a new relationship and was cheering Jackson and Megan on hoping they would find their happy ending. Will be tuning in for more.

Like a Doll - Stephanie Witter. Plus my review

For the release, Be A Doll is only $0.99 or FREE with KindleUnlimited

Blurb:

At Carter Manor, women were groomed to become the perfect next trophy wife for the most influential and powerful men in the world.
Polished, educated, and disciplined... they met every criteria.
Or did they?

LILA

After escaping two prospective husbands, I knew I didn't have much of a choice anymore but to play by the rules if I didn't want to end up back in the streets.
Upon meeting him I expected an older disgusting man, but he proved me wrong.
He was young, handsome... and despicable.
His cold hearted behavior and condescension caused me to lose my carefully built appearance of sophistication, but somehow, it made me win a husband who enjoyed toying with me until he could break the last pieces of who I used to be. I wouldn't let him.
I hated him.
At least I did at first, until I had a peek underneath his walls and discovered the kind of pain he shouldered.

MATHIS

I never thought I'd get married and even less that I would be purchasing my wife, but for my business I would do anything.
At the Manor, I was sure I'd find bland women so polished that nothing of their own personality was left.  But one candidate couldn't hide the fire in her.
I was drawn, ready to toy with her, to tease her until she folded for me and let me take her to make her fully mine and not in name only.
I didn't want love, I didn't want her to be in my living space and I certainly didn't want her to see who I really was under the facade I had spent years shaping myself to be, but that was exactly what was happening.
She fascinated me.
Her strength made me want her in the most all-consuming way.
Now I wondered who possessed whom.

Excerpt:

“I’m not playing.’’
His head tilted, eyes on mine and lips in between his teeth, it was difficult for me to stay put and wait for his next move. My whole body buzzed with need, with an urgency I didn’t remember ever feeling in the past. Not to this extreme.
He released his lower lip from the trap of his white teeth and I let my eyes enjoy the spectacle of his lip, darker than before and with a slight shine to it. Tasting him, hearing the hitch in his breathing, feeling his hardened cock... that was all I wanted, all that mattered at that moment. I was reduced to a mindless pool of lust and it didn’t even register in my head to be cautious and to second guess what would happen.
“Aren’t you?’’ he asked and finally moved.
He took a step inside and closed the door without tearing his eyes from me. With one quick glance on his left he dropped his keys in the big pot on the console and then walked toward me, his eyes boring into me.
That stare alone was foreplay.
It spoke of touches, intimate and teasing. It spoke of kisses. It spoke of sex without holding back. It spoke of orgasms, powerful and probably blinding.
I didn’t move from my seat, sure that if I attempted to stand up I’d make a fool of myself with the pinpricks in my legs telling me how wobbly I was. But I didn’t need to anyway because in no time he was towering over me, his eyes on mine as I had my head tilted back so as not to break eye contact. It wasn’t even a conscious decision not to. I was trapped, enthralled and at his mercy.
He wanted to break my resolve, to shatter my vows and ruin the person I had been groomed to become and he succeeded in a matter of a few short days.
“Does that mean you want me, little wife?’’
His eyes then left mine and deliberately fell down to my cleavage. The path his dark orbs took warmed me, drawing out goosebumps, and I shivered when I realized the kind of perfect view he must have from above, down the v of my cashmere sweater.
“I want an orgasm,’’ I replied in a bout of defiance as my eyes landed on his slightly parted lips. “That’s all.’’
He crouched in front of me, bringing his head to the same level as mine. The closeness that had me gasping silently. His nose grazed mine and his mouth was just a breath away from mine, tantalizing, teasing. He was always teasing. Playing with me. Toying with me.

My Review

When I read the blurb for this book I honestly thought it sounded a little creepy, but I have read and really enjoyed books by this author so I thought I would give it a shot and I'm glad I did.
I liked the strong willed Lila. She was always in a battle between proper behaviour and  her natural fiesty nature.
I liked Mathis too and felt for him. I sometimes thought his character took things too far but I guess he was supposed to be like that.
I also enjoyed reading the transformation these two make throughout their journey. A journey filled with elephant sized potholes they have to learn to navigate.
Once again this author has managed an interesting twist on her story.

When I'm With You - Danielle Dickson plus my review

~*Blog Tour*~

Title: When I’m With You
Author: Author Danielle Dickson
Cover designer: Marisa-rose Shor / Cover Me Darling

#LIVE now:

Synopsis:
I’m far from your typical girl-next-door. My piercing blue stare coupled with the ink that winds its way around my arms throws people off, judging who I am before they’ve even spoken to me.

It doesn’t bother me anymore… I’m used to it.

Putting up a front and wearing my steely exterior like a wall of armor is something that I’ve perfected.

I’ve had to become this way. Everyone that I’ve ever met has treated me like dirt and thrown me to the side like a piece of trash. So what’s the point in making an effort just for me to get hurt?

There isn’t… and that’s exactly why I am the way that I am. Protect myself first… always. My past has taught me that much.

The very people that were meant to love me unconditionally turned their backs on me when I needed them the most. With their lifestyle and the company they kept, I shouldn’t have expected anything less.

But… I never expected him to turn his back on me. The one person who made me feel safe. The only one who ever really cared.

I’ve moved across the country to get as far away as I can… from all of them... but deep down I know that they aren’t finished with me yet. I know it’s just a matter of time before they finally catch up to me, and when they do, I just hope I can make it out alive.

Excerpt:

The back of the van opens with a creak and my breath hitches as I feel hands wrap around my ankles as I get jerked forward. I try to steady my shaking hands, but who am I kidding? I’m scared shitless.

Apart from his hands pinning me down, he’s not made a move to do anything else yet so my pulse slows down and my head to mouth filter stops working.
“So let me guess, you’re the little bitch doing all the dirty work while my dad sits on his ass? Hmm? Oh come on, Mr silent, give me a little something, it’s not like I can do anything with it.” He doesn’t say or do anything. “Come on, the least you could do is tell me where you’re taking me, you have just taken me hostage, you sick fuck.”
Normally by now they’d have lashed out at what I’m saying, but apart from breaking into my salon and apartment, trashing the place and taking me against my will, he hasn’t actually made a move to hurt me. My mind is swirling, if he isn’t going to hurt me, then maybe I can try and get away?
Just as that thought rolls through my mind I hear the sound of another vehicle approaching, and I stiffen before my mind catches up and I thrash about tirelessly against his arms, but it’s no use. I manage to connect with a few parts of his body that has him wheezing, but he wraps his arms around me to restrain me.
The other engine cuts out and the sound of a door opening makes me freeze. I hear footsteps coming toward us and the gravelly lilt to my attackers’ voice grinds out over the air. “You were supposed to be here an hour ago, I had to drive around for a bit longer so I didn’t look too suspicious.”
I stop breathing, waiting for the other person to speak, but he gets no answer in reply. I feel him ease off me. “She’s feisty, watch out for those feet.”
He chuckles as if this is all just a big joke, like my life means nothing, and then I feel all his weight come off me and another replace his.
The sound of keys being exchanged and retreating footsteps are next, and I breathe in the smoke of whoever is stroking their grubby paws up the outside of my left leg. I stay still and try to contain the panic I’m starting to feel. This exchange is different; I can feel the dark vibes rolling off this person in waves.
Their hand travels across my thighs and down the other leg making me want to throw up as I feel their calloused hands glide across my skin. Fuck this shit, I kick out with both bound feet and smile as they connect with something that makes him curse.
“Fuckin’ bitch!”
I freeze as years of bad memories assault me, I know that voice better than my own. I’d rather die than be in his hands again.

My Review

OK this was a tricky book to rate for me as I hadn't read book 1 so even though I could follow on I felt like I jumped in halfway through. I'd suggest reading book 1 maybe. By the time I was on board with who was who and what was going on it was a few chapters in.
In saying that I did like the authors writing style and I thought all of the main characters we really well written. I also enjoyed the story and drama. I did have to remind myself a few times that M.C genre has a different set of rules attached and things that are not acceptable in other genres are fine.

  • Once I got into the story I really loved it. And now I need to know what's going to happen next.

Counterbalance Cover Reveal and my review

#CoverReveal

Check out the sexy new cover for Kelly Moran's upcoming billionaire #romance, Counterbalance, and pre-order your copy today! Happy reading!

My Review

Some book simply need more than 5 stars and this is one of them. Every book I've read by Kelly Moran has me saying the same thing in the reviews but it's because it's always true. Her characters are just so real and well written. Even her 'billionaire businessman' is beautifully flawed in a way that normal every day people are. I get so connected with her characters I don't want the books to end.
This book sucks you in from page one which is another thing I love about it. Then you are hooked until the end.
Xavier is a leading man you just have to read to believe. Peyton brings out the best in him and it had me going aww more than once. Peyton is an amazing girl with a huge heart but is a bit flawed too. She is perfect for Xavier and I was cheering these guys on hoping for the ending I wanted.
This book come highly recommended as do all of the books I've read from this author so far.

Clam Jam - R. C. Boldt (love love loved this one)

rc-boldt
Synopsis
“Clam Jam”   Definition: the female equivalent of a cock block.   Example: You’re chatting with a guy you’re interested in and your friend comes along and lays claim to him.     Maggie   That’s my life—except it’s worse. My friend who keeps “jamming” me is my gay roommate and if that isn’t a W.T.F. moment, I’m not sure what is.   Fact: He went home with three—yes, three—of the guys I had been so sure were into me.   Fact: He’s really pissing me off. I mean, hello? I’m trying to get back in the saddle, but I’ll never manage to get a boyfriend before the age of fifty if he keeps this up.   Fact: Secretly, I wonder what it would be like if he weren’t gay. Why do all the hot, sweet, tender-hearted guys have to be gay?   Fact: My gay-dar needs a serious tune-up.     Ry   The day I interviewed for the room to rent, everything changed. I knew I had met “the girl”, except there was one small problem: she didn’t want anything to do with men. I recognized a top-notch force field when I saw one. She’d been burned badly and didn’t want to deal with a heterosexual guy as a roommate. I could’ve turned around and found another place to live, but I wanted to live there—with her.   So I had to go “undercover”.   Fact: I’m in love with my roommate.   Fact: I’m a likely candidate for carpal tunnel surgery since all the action I’ve had for the past year has been my hand.   Fact: She’s going to hate me if I come clean now.   Fact: I’m not giving up. Which means, I’ll just have to continue to run defense until I figure out a way to get Maggie to see the “real” me.   The me that loves her.   The me that would never do her wrong.   Until then, I’ll keep running off every guy who shows any interest.   Until then, I’ll continue to Clam Jam.

My Review

Just like the title this book is hilarious. The story is written so it feels like Maggie and Ry are talking to you and some of Maggie's internal dialogue is so funny. It's stuff women think about but I have never seen an author take the time to get it all down like that before.
I enjoyed both characters. Maggie is a clever, funny woman and Ry is successful and sexy. The chemistry is great even with all of the barriers they need to get through and the books goes from funny to steamy to serious and it's all written so well.
If you like your stories funny and a bit qwerky then this one is for you.
